Our weekly look at the lucky trio whose stock is on the rise, and the unfortunate souls facing a Black Wednesday…

GOING UP

Daniel Sturridge, Liverpool
The striker followed up his debut goal with a first in the league. His five-fingered celebration – in reference to his new side’s history in the European Cup – will have further endeared him to the Anfield faithful.

Sebastian Larsson, Sunderland
Giorgos Karagounis scored a belter for Fulham, but the Swedish midfielder got the goal of the week with a 25-yard rocket that sparked a Sunderland demolition of West Ham United. The Black Cats have been needing a win like this.

Patrice Evra, Manchester United
The second goal for the home side at Old Trafford may have been given to Nemanja Vidic but it was purely the result of a deflection from the little big man. He also provided the cross for the opener.

GOING DOWN

West Bromwich Albion
Two goals up and 10 minutes remaining against a team seemingly locked in the relegation zone you still cannot take your foot off the pedal. Three late goals from Reading sent the Baggies home with nothing.

Laurent Koscielny, Arsenal
When you charge more than Dh300 a ticket for the away fans you should ensure you give them an entertaining game. Koscielny’s 10th-minute dismissal made this a one-sided match and heaped more misery on his manager.

Paul Lambert, Aston Villa
The manager’s faith in his young charges is admirable, but their lack of experience is beginning to show. Randy Lerner has declared his total support, but now they have slipped into the relegation zone will he maintain the fans’.
