The parties were still going strong at Yas Island for F1 weekend. On Saturday I was invited aboard Amber Lounge’s Princess K yacht, brought over to Abu Dhabi from Monaco for the first time, where I chatted to the boys from Far East Movement.
The Los Angeles hip-hop group flew in yesterday morning and were pretty jet lagged from the long flight but loving the glitzy atmosphere at the marina. It’s not their first time in the UAE as they performed in Dubai last year, but it’s their first F1 and they studiously read up on the event brochure to familiarise themselves with the drivers. Far East Movement went to the top of the US charts with their track Like a G6 and you can catch them live at Amber Lounge’s closing party tonight at Yas Marina. Also on board was the British drummer and DJ McNasty. He may be McNasty by name but certainly not by nature. The Britain’s Got Talent contestant and the brother of Labrinth – who is also in town performing at F 1 parties – McNasty is a down-to-earth and charming family man who confessed to me over a cup of camomile tea that he was intrigued but too scared to try out the jet ski attached to the yacht and preferred the quiet life to the thrills and spills that surround F1. You won’t catch this guy on the Ferrari World roller coaster but you can catch him playing at Amber Lounge tonight. The club’s founder Sonia Irvine remained tight-lipped on who has booked into Amber Lounge tonight but if last year’s closing party is anything to go by you can expect to see plenty of F1 drivers and other famous faces. We already know that David Hasselhoff and Diego Maradona are in town, but the only way to check out Amber Lounge’s celebrity guests is to buy a ticket to the hottest party in town.
