Those seeking an authentic taste of Ramadan should head to the Times of Arabia restaurant.
Outside the Middle Eastern eatery in Dubai’s Souk Madinat Jumeirah will be this gentleman, offering passers-by some erk-soos drink.
For those who don’t know, erk-soos is a black, mildly sweet, slightly bitter drink made from liquorice root that is served throughout Ramadan.
The process of making it involves putting the ground roots in a muslin cloth and dripping water through it overnight.
It’s generally too complicated and time consuming to make at home. So, instead people typically buy erk-soos from specialised shops or from street vendors.
Those wanting to try a free sample should pop by between 7.30pm and 2am every day throughout the Holy Month.
The place also offer an Iftar buffet and a suhoor menu. Call 04 368 6044 for more information.
