“When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple…”

The New York photographer Ari Seth Cohen has a fashion blog with a difference. Advanced Style focuses on senior style setters – ie those over 60 who are seeing through their advancing years with a staunch sophistication and unique sartorial approach. Or as Cohen says: “Proof from the
wise and silver-haired set that personal style advances with age.”
Four years after it began, Cohen has compiled the best of the blog in a new book, Advanced Style,
published this week. A fascinating collection of photographs, interviews, stories and some great style
advice from women (and a few men) with years of experience.
Looking at these photos made us think of that lovely poem by Jenny Joseph, Warning, about the joy that the liberation of older age brings; of doing (and wearing) what you want, when you want.
Here’s a preview of what you can expect. We can only hope than when our silver years approach, we’ll look half as good as these grand dames.
