There's a new book out by Robert Shiller (with George Akerlof) called Animal Spirits: How Human Psychology Drives the Economy, and Why It Matters for Global Capitalism. Anyway, this is good news. It's always good to hear of new work by
Shiller, the Yale professor who came to fame with his
90s-stock-bubble-collapse-predicting Irrational Exuberance. Because as far as finance goes, Shiller is pretty much The Man. No, not quite a Daniel Kahneman-esque figure just yet. Still, brilliant.
Naturally,
Animal Spirits rips apart the oft-shredded notion
that we're rational. (With all the bookbeating about psychology from
economists these days, one wonders just how crazy we might actually
be.) It's also sure to be nuanced about where we go wrong. Here are a
couple of
reviews and the
Amazon page. Has anyone read it yet? Or been
able to source a copy in the UAE?
UPDATE: Kinokuniya at Dubai Mall (the huuuge bookstore there) has five copies.
