Ali Al Jabri has replaced Peter Scarlet as director of the Abu Dhabi Film Festival (ADFF).
Mr Al Jabri has worked for the festival for five years, previously as head of the Emirates Film Competition.
“I am both proud and excited about the new role,” said Mr Al Jabri in a statement. “This shows the tremendous opportunities that are now opening up in the media industry for UAE nationals.”
He replaces Peter Scarlet, who confirmed that he has left the Film Festival when contacted by The National.
Mr Scarlet previously worked at several film festivals including a long stint at the New York Tribeca Film Festival.
The change of guard at ADFF follows a decision taken last March to transfer the festival from the former Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (Adach) to Abu Dhabi’s media zone twofour54.
Another entity, the Abu Dhabi Film Commission, was moved under the control of twofour54 in 2011.
