In an effort to counter spam text messages, the UAE government will send 9.6 million text messages warning people about scam text messages.

As announced by the WAM news agency:

"The campaign is organised by the General Secretariat of the Office of the Interior Minister. It is aimed at spreading awareness amongst the public against falling victim to unscrupulous scam artists who use fraudulent e-mail, telephone calls, and short messages."

The campaign begins on Sunday, and will also include a full-court press in the media, according to the announcement.
